Dutch Evening Paper NRC launches new podcast channel, TrustTalk added
NRC Handelsblad, abbreviated to NRC, is a daily evening newspaper published in the Netherlands. It recently launched NRC AUDIO, a collection of podcasts by NRC as well as of third parties.
The Editor-in-Chief published the following letter to all NRC readers en beyond:
Dear readers and listeners,
NRC Handelsblad was first published 50 years ago, 25 years ago we started our website nrc.nl and today NRC is taking another big step. We launch NRC Audio. A beautiful new app, specially made for audio journalism of ourselves and others. NRC Audio is a handy and clear guide that helps you to find the best, most beautiful, most exciting and most special journalistic podcasts from home and abroad.
Maybe you are already familiar with our daily podcast NRC Today. Or listen to our political podcast Haagse Zaken or to Onbehaarde Apen, the podcast of our science editorial team, every week. We are of course happy with that. We are proud of our current podcasts and 1.5 million monthly downloads. In recent months, the editors have worked hard on new NRC podcasts, including about crime, technology and the American elections. We also invest in other audiovisual stories, such as spoken columns by Marcel van Roosmalen and Frits Abrahams, among others.
And there is more. NRC Audio not only offers NRC. Because not only NRC makes podcasts in which quality comes first. Beautiful podcasts are also made by others. These can be individual makers, experimental collectives or established media. Where can you find that quality selection in one app? NRC is your guide in this.
The NRC Audio app helps us to future-proof journalistic audio. We believe this is an important task for all podcast creators. At the moment, it is the platforms of major tech companies that control the market. That is a vulnerable position that can be harmful to journalism. With the NRC Audio App we offer an alternative platform.
Who is the NRC Audio app for? For anyone who likes to listen to podcasts. Registration is free, as is access to our selection of a wide range of audio. All you need to do is download the NRC Audio app from your app store. You can find all the information about this here.
Until January 1, 2021, all NRC audio journalism can also be heard in the app for every app user; after that, certain NRC podcasts become available only to subscribers, at no additional cost.
We invest in our journalism to be worthy of your trust. As an NRC subscriber you make that possible. We thank you for this with this new, extra dimension to your subscription.
Sincerely,
René Moerland
